Ive officially been in Chile for one week!
Its so hard to not be able to stay connected with everyone! I dont have much time on the internet so Im going to try to give just a quick update.
This week was much different than I expected. As I mentioned, life in South America is just a bit different than in the US. Many things we had planned this week were canceled or didnt go according to plan! We ended up not going to the surf competition due to rainy weather. We spent the week doing some practical work and we also got to work with kids with special needs. We prayed a lot as a team and just spent the week getting adjusted and building unity among us. As we prayed yesterday, we felt like God was using this last week to prepare us for things to come. This next week we plan to do some evangelism in the town using music and maybe performing some dramas. We also want to pick up litter around the town. We will also continue with practical work on the base.
Were beginning to build some relationships with people on the base. There is a family who is looking after us. They are so sweet and hospitable. We went over to their house last week to play games and today they invited us to spend Christmas Eve with them. It will be so nice to spend Christmas with a family! It doesnt feel anything like Christmas time here. Its been warm but not too hot. As I mentioned, its just the beginning of their summer. Today we had a free day and we spent time on the beach. It was so nice to just lay on the beach and enjoy the sunshine. So strange for December!
God has been teaching me things I didnt expect to learn. Ive been challenged by living closely with 10 others! We cant go anywhere alone, but have to stay in groups of three. The girls are all staying in a house together with one bathroom (there are 8 of us). Im thankful to have these experiences and God is teaching me how to prefer others over myself. I am so glad Im here and I know that God is not only using me to share His love with people but He is working on my character.
Please pray for opportunities for our team in this next week to evangelize. Tomorrow night we will be meeting with a group of teenagers who want to hear our testimonies. Please pray that we can connect with them and that language would not be a barrier.
Blessings to you all!
Use your Spanish girl. You can work it!!! Ha Ha!! Yesterday there was a tornado in Aumsville Oregon. That is the town after Turner when we go the back way to Bend. Lots of damage but no one was hurt, praise God. It has been all over the news. Hope you and your group are all well. Love you lots!!! Daddy G.
